IBM PureData System for Analytics N2001 or Netezza Striper is a purpose-built, standards-based data warehouse and analytic appliance. The Netezza striper architecture integrates database, server (High available RH Linux Servers), storage (disks), and advanced analytic capabilities into a single, easy-to-manage system.

The Netezza Striper includes the design that is specifically designed for running complex analytics on large volumes of data sets (petabytes of data) at high speed.

Netezza Striper Architecture

The IBM PureData System for Analytics N2001 series data warehouse appliances increases the storage capacity and performance of the Netezza TwinFin models.

Within each rack are numerous components those work together to provide the asymmetric massively parallel processing of the Netezza architecture. The key hardware components include:

  • Snippet blades (S-Blades)
  • Hosts
  • Storage arrays

Read:

The Netezza Striper delivers a 3x improvement for complex and mixed workloads than the previous generation (TwinFin),  50% more usable capacity per rack compared to N1001 (TwinFin).

In this Netezza Striper, each each S-Blade has:

  • 2 x Intel Xeon E7-2830 2.13GHz 8-core CPUs – total 16 cores
  • 2 2 x Xilinx Virtex-6 LX550T, 8 Engines.  250MHz (325 MHz for decompress) – Total 16 engines
  • Can accommodate 40 data streams at 130 MB/sec each for a total bandwidth of 5.2 GB/sec

Following Figure summarize the N2001 half rack, full-rack and two-rack models:

Below are the some of the Netezza Striper offerings:

  • Hardware design that delivers fastest performance for complex analytics queries to date
  • The Netezza striper is three times faster performance if you compar to its predecessor
  • Ten to 100 times faster performance than traditional custom systems available in market
  • The Netezza striper architecture is included with patented massively parallel processing hardware acceleration (FPGA)
  • Capability designed to run complex analytics in minutes, not hours
  • Ability to be up and running in 24 hours
  • Highly available architecture
  • A ready-to-go offering with expert integration
  • A powerful platform to help manage the challenges of business intelligence (BI) and advanced analytics
  • Scalable performance with blazing fast complex analytics and BI performance
  • Simplified analytic development with default parallelized analytics and modules; thus no need for parallel programming
