I have received multiple requests to create tutorial on working with Netezza SQL database development tool. In this post, I have created guide to install Netezza Aginity workbench in windows environment.
About Netezza Aginity
Aginity workbench is an easy-to-use application that enhances performance and creates efficiencies when working with MPP data warehouse appliances. Aginity workbench provides a powerful set of GUI-based tools for developers, DBAs, and data analysts.

This SQL database development tool offers unique capabilities that allow you to focus on MPP databases. It provides an intuitive user interface for creating, managing, and tracking both individual SQL queries, and entire database schemas.

Following are Aginity workbench capabilities:
- Auto-complete
- Stored procedure creating wizard
- Query plan analyzer
- Parameterized queries
- Reverse engineering
Here are the steps to install Agnity workbench for Netezza in Windows environment.
Step 1: Download Netezza Aginity Workbech
Note: You should download ODBC or OLEDB Netezza drivers from IBM site and install them into your system before installing Aginity.
Go to Aginity official website to download workbench for free. Click on Aginity workbench “download now” button and fill the below form with your correct information and submit it. It will take you to download page on successful submission and you will receive the software download link to your mail ID too. There will two links one for 64 bit and other 32 bit.

Step 2: Install Netezza Aginity Workbench
Double click on the downloaded Aginity workbench to start installation.
Accept terms and condition and click on “Next”
You may choose to create Aginity workbench shortcut to all users on system or for yourself. Click on “Next” to stat installation
Step 3: Get Aginity Workbench license code
Run the installed aginity workbench. Licensing window will pop-up and you have three options
- Register for community edition (free)
- Provide license if you already have license code
- Continue with evaluation. This option will expire after month
Select first option to register for free copy of aginity workbench community edition and click “Next”
Fill in below form to receive Aginity workbench community edition license code.
Note: You should provide the work email ID. It will not accept personal gmail, yahoo or outlook email id. Connect to internet and submit form. By this time, you might have received the license code. Copy and paste the same as shown below and click on “Finish”.

Step 4: Connect to Netezza database
You will get pop-up to connect to Netezza server soon after registration is successful. Provide connection name that you want to store e.g. NzDev
Provide required details such as, host name, user name and password. Fetch database details and click “Ok”.
Finally, you are done with Aginity installation.

Thanks for the information. Yes! Netezza windows drivers are required.
Is there a way to activate the license for all users on a shared desktop? We installed it in our base as local Admin, but, every new user gets prompted for the activation.
Is there a way to activate the license for all users on a shared PC? We installed the client in our base image as local admin, including doing the activation on first run, but, any new users logging into Windows, get prompted as well.
